Final Show, Steamrolling, Creative Space, Ball-Zee at Christmas

Yes y'all

First up, we'd like to thank everyone who braved the arctic conditions to come vibe with us at the Festival of Light in Huddersfield last weekend. It was humbling to see how many people came to the street party - nice one! Here's a video shot by our good friend Pajama Jama, showing some of the highlights of the evening:

We'd also like to take this opportunity to invite you to our FINAL SHOW of the year....

23rd December @ 1:22 Live, Huddersfield
EXTRA CURRICULAR support from Sons Of Mischief
It's been an absolute rollercoaster of a year: highlights have included mainstage festival slots at Greenbelt, Limetree, and a whole host of other great festivals.... we also absolutely LOVED smashing up Huddersfield's infamous Afterparty Warehouse rave alongside Example, Zane Lowe, Artwork (Magnetic Man), and Doorly!

We'd love for you to join us for one last special show, and because we know it's your support that has got us to where we are now we're going to be GIVING AWAY some of our back catalogue of CDs...

2012 is going to be EPIC, our first full-scale releases are kicking off in the new year and we're excited to be able to share this crazy journey with you.

More details to come soon for this event once they're finalised.... but for now, please share, invite your friends, and gear yourselves up for a serious PARTY! Event page HERE

---------Jack Flash 'Steamrolling'------------

We featured this track from our very own Jack Flash a few months back as an audio track, but here it is now in all it's music video glory...... shot by Paul Cockcroft

----------John Waugh 'Creative Space'---------

Our super-talented sax-man Mr. John Waugh was commissioned to compose an original score to accompany four short films on artists. Here's one of them....

To see the rest of them (well worth a watch!), click HERE to go to the main site.

---------Ball Zee at Christmas-------

And finally, to get you in that Christmas spirit, Ball-Zee our beat-boxing maestro has recorded another one of his dope freestyles....

Yes y'all,

We'd like to take a moment to let you know about a couple of shows we have coming up over the next few weeks.

26th November @ The Library, Headingley, Leeds

We're going to be road-testing a few BRAND NEW tracks at this show - never heard outside of our studio. If you want to be the first to preview the EC 2012 set this is the show to come to. Also super-stoked to have members of Nightmares On Wax, The Haggis Horns, Brand New Heavies, and Finley Quaye's live bands support us in the form of 'Dirty Velvet' ---- we're going to be taking notes ;) Also appearing on the night will be the amazing Dan Audio, amongst others... *edit* FB event now up HERE

3rd December @ Massive Outdoor Stage, Huddersfield

When we first got the call about this show, we thought it was a wind-up.... Basically, the promoters are going to close of a massive part of central Huddersfield (the area from the top of the Kingsgate to the bottom), erect a huge stage, and put on an awesome street party (all the bars will be able to serve drinks outdoors - yes!). We will be headlining the evening with The Haggis Horns and Sons of Mischief supporting - it's going to be very special! The event will be free and form part of a larger 'Festival of Light'. Check out the webpage for the event HERE

...So, we only printed our latest EP a couple of months back, but we've already SOLD OUT of physicals - Jeeeez, overwhelmed by that! We might print some more depending on demand, but we also want to get some new stuff to you real soon! For now, you can still grab it as a high quality download from http://underwrapsmusic.bandcamp.com/album/the-ec-ep

-------JACK FLASH PROGRESSION--------

Flash is due to drop his latest album 'Progression' later this month supported by two album launch events. They will be Bar 1:22, Huddersfield on November 18th, and Sedgewick Avenue, Leeds on November 19th. Peep 'Steamrolling' from the new album here:

-------THABO AND LEE M KELSALL-------

Thabo and Lee M Kelsall have joined forces to make this super-smooth house track. I cannot stop playing this, perfect music to clear those grey skies away!

WOW - so we supported Example, Zane Lowe, Artwork (Magnetic Man), and Doorly this weekend!!!

One of the most amazing weekends for us as a band this weekend. First, a headline show at the Hootananny in Brixton to a packed audience, and then, a MASSIVE warehouse rave for Afterparty, Huddersfield supporting Example, Zane Lowe, Artwork (Magnetic Man), and Doorly. Needless to say we are all on Cloud 9 - gonna take a minute to come down from here! Here are a few of our favourite pics:

To top of the night Flash and Thabo then jumped up and MC'd for ARTWORK at about 4 in the morning. The set was heavy, the crowd were live, and the stage was literally full of people - HYPE.

Photos by Paul Cockcroft and Dave Lockwood

Massive shouts to Doorly and Bongo Dave for their hospitality at this one!

This Thursday we're playing in Leeds alongside Herve and DJ Derek. We're hoping that Leeds is going to live up to the high standard set by London and Huddersfield this weekend. Event info HERE

--------Four Letter F Word---------

Flash has just dropped a new video on Youtube. Did you know this many four letter F words? Beat and production courtesy of the man they call Wizard

New EP, Festival Thankyou, On Tour

Yes y'all,

It's been a few weeks since I've posted one of these, and with good reason - we've been crazy busy! As I look out of my window at a wet and windswept Leeds it is clear that summer is all but over......but what a good one it has been!

On behalf of Extra Curricular I would like to thank, in no particular order, the organisers, staff, and wonderful crowds at....Greenbelt Festival, Limetree Festival, Chai Wallahs, The Greenman Festival, Corbridge Music Festival, Secret Garden Party, Together festival, and Sunrise Celebration. It's been EPIC, and we can't wait to do it all again next time! Peep the tour pictures HERE

Speaking of the future, we have some wicked stuff coming up for you....

We have a BRAND NEW, 6-track, limited edition EP up for preview and purchase now. I must stress the limited edition of this because we're only selling this until November when our official release schedule starts. Basically we SOLD OUT of our old EP this summer and we thought that, rather than re-printing it, we'd give you something brand new....so here it is available in download or CD (p.s. one track is free, so check it out!):

We're going to be launching this EP at 1:22, Huddersfield on September 23rd. Check the FB event page here: http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=196441760421572

Pyrotechnics, Under Wraps Music, Thabo's Tips 6, Upcoming Shows

Yes y'all,

Summer is officially here and we've been getting stuck into festival season good and proper! Major props if you've come and checked out a show so far, you've all looked beautiful from where we've been standing :)

-------Under Wraps Music------

A couple of weeks ago we officially launched Under Wraps Music with a special, intimate show in a garden! Crazy I know, but Noah and Ruby have been talking about doing it for years. To give you a bit more information Under Wraps Music is "...a hub for Huddersfield creatives and musicians, showcasing the best in Hip Hop/Soul from H Town." Check the footage here:

--------Pyrotechnics----------

Yes, yes, indoor pyrotechnics are alot of fun, but there was some serious business to be done at our show at DYCA. This was a joint venture between ELFM (East Leeds FM) and DYCA (David Young Community Academy) which saw us taking the EC show into schools and to benefit the future generation. There were some workshops that culminated in a gig that was, for many of the children, their first ever concert experience! Felt real good to be giving something back, check the footage here:

--------Thabo's Tip #6--------

Our boy Thabo with another great tip for life and music....someone gonna give this man a TV show or something??

P.S If you're wondering why we suddenly have loads of videos of everything we do, check our Mr Paul Cockcroft's work - he is rolling with us to every show and has quickly become a part of the EC family - welcome!

Hangin', Secret Garden Party, Upcoming Shows

(Picture and videos courtesy of Paul Cockcroft)
Yes y'all,

So, we've had a fun few weeks as the sun has finally started to show it's face a little more and we've moved the music from the club to the field :)

In the music industry, there is always alot of hanging around.... hanging around for a soundcheck, hanging around before you go on stage, hanging around after the show, hanging around in the studio etc. Infact, most musicians/performers will tell you that they 'perform for free', but get paid for the 'travelling and hanging around' - it's much more tedious than you think. We've started documenting some of this 'hanging around' - one because we get bored, and two because there's always plenty of banter ;)

------SECRET GARDEN PARTY--------

Yes, we are playing Secret Garden Part 2011, but first, let me tell you about a little 'secret' garden party we had yesterday....

For about 3 years Noah and Ruby have talked about having a gig in their garden....and yesterday they finally did it! It was an amazing gathering of creative-types from the area with music from The Space KuggiesBall-Zee, Ruby & Noah, Thabo and The Real Deal, and of course, Extra Curricular. It was also a way of pulling all these groups together and launching a collective called Under Wraps Music - more on this to come soon! Here's a pic of the intimate affair....

As I mentioned before, the lovely folks at Chai Wallahs have asked us to join their amazing roster for Secret Garden Party 2011 - we're playing the Chai Wallahs stage on Sunday 24th July at 6pm!

They have also asked us to play Green Man Festival with them in August, so we're really pleased to be able to announce these two shows to you now! Make sure to check out their Facebook group and tell them how dope they are for inviting Extra Curricular to join them this year! Do it HERE

-------UPCOMING SHOWS--------

Just before I give you a complete run-down of our upcoming shows, check out Thabo's advice for the week - this guy knows the score, and his message is something we at EC live by....

Some Music, Some Charity, Some Bulls*@t

(Photo from EC @ The Bodega, courtesy of Lindsey Billenger)
Yes y'all,

Got a ton of wicked stuff for you today so going to keep the chatter to a minimum. Straight in at the top then....

-------JACK FLASH STARS-------

On the way back from a recent show we had 'In Ghost Colours' playing by Cut Copy. Flash got inspired and within 24 hours had come back with this deep verse over a sample from the album. Life affirming stuff....

If you're feeling this, go tell him @JackFlashUK

---------RUBY UNTOLD-----------

Next up, Ruby wanted me to tell you about this great project she has been involved in. It's an album by women for the benefit of other women. It features 23 tracks by female performers and all the proceeds go to Amnesty International's campaign 'Stop Violence Against Women'. In preparation for the full album dropping you can preview and download a fantastic remix album....you are also allowed to listen to it if you are male, so don't be shy now...

-------THABO'S TOILET -------

Not to be outdone, Thabo recorded this great piece of advice whilst on the set of our latest video shoot. This stuff should be taught to everyone...

So there you have it, some music, some charity, and some bulls*@t, that's how we like to roll.....;)

Before we finish, big up to everyone who came to rock with us at Sunrise Festival, The Bodega (Sounddhism), and Mr Bens last week. It was a pleasure to work with such wicked crowds and staff - thanks!
